Bodies of Revolution                                                 <Back

The revolution is about an axis which is defined as the current path. This is a single straight edge or an edge group (only the first edge will be used). Right-click the edge and select Make Path.

To make a body of revolution, start with an edge group lying in one plane. Draw edges whose endpoints line up, and right-click one and select Group Connected Edges. The edge group may be closed or open. It must lie entirely to one side of the path, otherwise the resulting volume will have self-intersections and will not render properly.

After checking that all the edges are in the group, select Make Body of Revolution. The edge group will be retained in case later editing is needed. If the edge group was open, the free ends will be completed by circles centred on the axis.
